Emily Skoczylas – October 2021 Member of the Month!

Congratulations to Emily Skoczylas, our October 2021 member of the month! Emily is a regular member of our evening classes, and she recently learned that she was much stronger than she originally thought, particularly in pulls from the floor (deadlifts and cleans!).  Learn more about her below!

What are your hobbies/interest/talents outside of the gym?
I enjoy hiking, learning to golf, game nights with friends, traveling. 

Share with us one thing that most people do NOT know about you?
I joined a Travel Fantasy Football League, and the winner gets to choose the next draft location.

How long have you been with us at Viking Athletics?
I’ve been with Viking Athletics since July 2020.

Take us back to your first week here. How did you feel? Remember the workout?
I don’t remember the exact workout, but I remember everyone being very welcoming. As someone new to CrossFit workouts, and using weights in general, the first week was challenging but also a lot of fun!

What moment/achievement are you most proud of at Viking Athletics?
I am most proud of my PRs for Deadlifts and Cleans. I realized I am much stronger than I thought, and don’t need to be afraid to add weight.

What is your least favorite movement?
Burpees…

Work hard and travel often

Have you experienced any changes in your lifestyle since joining Viking Athletics?
I would say I have worked to be more mindful and listen to my body. Learning when to take a day off, even if it is out of my routine has allowed me to have better workouts and feel better overall.

What advice do you have for anyone who is thinking about joining or who has recently joined?
The first few workouts are going to be challenging, especially if you are new to CrossFit in general, but with consistency you will see results. You will gain not only physical strength, but mental strength that helps push you through workouts. The coaches are always there to help, and the community is great, everyone will always cheer you on!
