AJ Price - May Member of the Month

1)      What are your hobbies/interest/talents outside of CrossFit?

Answer: Outside of CrossFit, I enjoy doing anything outside including hiking, skiing, and golf. I also enjoy visiting new places and learning about different cultures.

2)      Share with us one thing that most people do NOT know about you?

Answer:  After graduating college I went with a few friends on a Europe Trip, it was my first trip out of the country and definitely sparked my interest in learning about different places and being able to see what it’s like to live around the world.

3)      How long have you been with us at CFR?

Answer: I have been a member of CFR since March 2018.

4)      Take us back to your first week here. How did you feel? Remember the workout?

Answer: I had been a part of another CrossFit gym before I moved to West Hartford and wasn’t sure if I wanted to continue CrossFit. So, I bought some equipment and worked out in my garage. After about a month I began to realize I was missing a key component of what makes CrossFit so enjoyable, the community! Therefore, I decided to check out CFR, one of the first workouts was an AMRAP of running and KB snatches, 2 movements I hadn’t been doing a lot of… It was a challenge and even after destroying my forearms from doing the snatches completely wrong, I was hooked.

5)      What moment/achievement are you most proud of at CFR?

Answer: My most proud moment at CFR was seeing my gymnastics skills improve, with being able to string together sets of Handstand Push Ups and Muscle Ups. Previously I would just write them off, and cop out by telling myself that I’m not meant to be good at gymnastics.

6)      Design your perfect workout?

Answer: I’ve always been a fan of rowing, the assault bike which is slowly starting to win my heart and heavy barbell movements so the workout would look a little something like this…

In 15 minutes complete:
4 rounds
15 Cal on Bike
15 Cal on Rower

With Remaining time…
Find 1RM Snatch

7)      What is your least favorite movement?

Answer:  Up until recently they were Double Unders but I think pistols have taken the top spot, which is a movement I can’t do and will have to work a lot on to develop.

8)      Summarize your lifestyle in 5 words or less.

Answer: “Keep Hammering” – Cam Hanes

9)      Have you experienced any changes in your lifestyle now that you have been a CrossFit athlete?

Answer: CrossFit has helped me have a cleaner diet and more importantly a better outlook on life. Often times going into a workout I have a lot on my mind from work to personal things and after pushing through a tough workout I feel a great sense of clarity and the extra noise seems to disappear.

10)   What advice do you have for anyone who is thinking about joining or who has recently joined?

Answer: My advice for anyone who is thinking about joining or who has recently joined is to not get discouraged when learning new movements, anything new is most likely going to be hard. It’s not a race, focus on the fundamentals of the movement and add weight or scale up when ready. You will start seeing progress, take notice of the small victories and use them to keep moving forward.
