Andie Courtemanche – December Member of the Month!

Happy New Year Relentless Family! Our December Member of the Month is Andrea (Andie) Courtemanche! She is a loyal member of the 6pm CrossFit classes as well as the Olympic Weightlifting Program! Keep reading to learn a little bit more about Andie and her love of “Christine.”

What are your hobbies/interest/talents outside of CrossFit?
Anything that involves doing stuff with my two dogs (Bruno and Hobbes) and my husband, Mike. We recently got into kayaking and try to spend as much time as we can by the ocean during the summer months.

What’s one thing that most people do NOT know about you?
I have a Ph.D. in behavioral psychology and my area of research is aimed at helping individuals who have developmental disabilities like autism.

How long have you been with us at CFR?
I joined CFR in September of 2014.

Take us back to your first week here. How did you feel? Remember your first workout?
I did a couple days of on-ramp classes mixed in with regular classes. I don’t remember the workout, but I do remember thinking that power cleans seemed really complicated. Also, the coaches were so friendly and welcoming. I was worried I would feel self-conscious about learning the movements, but the coaches were amazingly supportive. I also knew after a few classes that I was going to become addicted.

What moment/achievement are you most proud of at CFR?
I finally got my first strict pull-up this year. It literally took 32 years to achieve this goal. I was so happy I cried a little. Better late than never.

What’s your perfect workout?
Anything that doesn’t require me to use my upper body! Christine is one of my favorite workouts. I think Christine is one of my favorites because it was one of the first workouts I was able to do prescribed.

“Christine”
3 Rounds for Time:
500m Row
12 Deadlifts (bodyweight)
21 Box Jumps (24/20)

What is your least favorite movement?
Thrusters are awful.

Summarize your lifestyle in 5 words or less.
Organized, objective, enthusiastic, hard-working, doggies

Have you experienced any changes in your lifestyle now that you have been a CrossFit athlete?
I actually look forward to working out and make working out a priority. It’s not just about working out, it’s also a time to work out with your friends. I’ve never laughed so much while working out in my life. I also find that I am less worried about the number on the scale. CrossFit gives you so many other “numbers” to focus on like your snatch or clean or the number of movements you can string together or go unbroken. The number on the scale seems to be less important. I just want to be strong.

What advice do you have for anyone who is thinking about joining or who has recently joined?
Just show up. Don’t look at the workout before hand. Don’t stress whether you can “do” the prescribed movements or weights. Seriously, just keep showing up to class. You’ll get a great workout and you won’t regret going.
