Ashley McCurdy – June Member of the Month!

Congratulations to Ashley McCurdy, CrossFit Relentless’s June Member of the Month.  She is a loyal member of the morning and noon classes and is a big craft beer fan who loves her lake-house in Oregon!

Ashley McCurdy - June Member of the Month

1)      What are your hobbies/interest/talents outside of CrossFit?

Outside of CrossFit I really enjoy anything outside; hiking, skiing, running and any water sports.  Anytime I can, I want to be outside doing something.  I also really enjoy going to breweries and trying new beers and anytime I travel I always drink something local.

2)      Share with us one thing that most people do NOT know about you?

Most people may not know that in addition to spending time in CT, we also have a condo in Central Oregon where I like to spend as much time as possible.  It’s a bit of a ways to go back and forth but totally worth it every time. It’s in the Cascade Lakes region and enjoys 300 days of sunshine and lots of craft beer!

3)      How long have you been with us at CFR?

I started at CFR in March of 2017 and prior to that I had never done CrossFit.

4)      Take us back to your first week here. How did you feel? Remember the workout?

The first week was rough, I had always worked out but clearly after just the first warm-up the first day of the on-ramp I realized I was not in shape at all!  I had to do the 1:1 on-ramp with Erik because of my work and school schedule and one of the first workouts we did was FRAN and I just remember how hard it was, pretty sure I left thinking I’m never going to be in shape to do this stuff! I also remember being super sore everyday but somehow also started to get addicted to the whole thing pretty quickly.

5)      What moment/achievement are you most proud of at CFR?

The moment I am most proud of at CFR was being a part of the Open this year and coming to the Friday night lights.  It kind of summed up how I had felt about the gym as a community and those Friday night lights events really showcased how the people here come together.  It created an atmosphere of encouragement and as a result I had my first kipping handstand pushup (thanks to Bobbi), and pull-ups.  Really cool stuff!

6)      Design your perfect workout?

My perfect workout would definitely have wall balls, burpees and moderately weighted barbell moves.  I know it’s weird but from all the years of playing in net for soccer I’m pretty sure burpees were a part of every drill; we just didn’t call them that, so I really don’t mind them.

7)      What is your least favorite movement?

My least favorite movement is snatching, I just can’t seem to ever feel comfortable doing them!

8)      Summarize your lifestyle in 5 words or less.

Here to enjoy the ride!

9)      Have you experienced any changes in your lifestyle now that you have been a CrossFit athlete?

I definitely am more conscious of what I eat and drink.  I feel like we put in so much work at the gym it would be such a waste to put crap in my body after.  I never really cared about that as much before but now I definitely take it much more serious.

10)   What advice do you have for anyone who is thinking about joining or who has recently joined?

Just stick with it and lean on the rest of the community for support.  They are by far one of the best assets you have when you’re starting out and as you continue.
